Design museum Gent
The Design museum Gent is a cultural institution of the City of Gent. Since January 1999 the museum has been recognized by the Ministry of the Flemish Community in the highest category. Next to the important financing by the city of Gent, other resources are subsidies by Ministry of the Flemish Community and the Province of East-Flanders.
The Design museum Gent is unique in Belgium. The accent in the collections and exhibitions lies on 20th century and actual design.
Designed in Brussels
Designed in Brussels is an organisation helping (usualy young) designers in Brussels with the production of contemporary design. They are behind an increasing number of competions, exhibition and prices.
Giampaolo Babetto
Giampaolo Babetto is an Italian jewellery designer who succeeded in putting the jewellery school of Padua on the international map. In the intervening years, he has achieved star status and every museum that has an important collection of jewellery possesses works designed by him.
Gottfried Pank
Gottfried is an absolute reference in terms of trends and fashions. He works at mode…info, world’s major trend-consultancy office.
Lise Coirier
After studying management and art history at the ULB, Lise Coirier has specialized into contemporary crafts and design. She created Pro Materia in 1999 with the objective of promoting today’s designers in Belgium as well as its historical background. She is active as a freelance design journalist (for Textile magazine, ARTE news, isel, …) and is the author of various publications : Design in Belgium 1945-2000, Design Book.Made in Belgium, Industrial Archeology in Belgium and Labeldesign.be. She is also behind the organisation of many exhibitions, competitions, jury’s and others.
Manuel Abendroth
Founded in 1997 and based in Brussels, LAb[au] mainly creates interactive artworks and audiovisual performances, for which it develops its own software and interfaces. Its four members (Manuel Abendroth, Jerome Decock, Alexandre Plennevaux and Els Vermang) have a background in architecture, art and music, and also run since 2003 a digital design gallery, Mediaruimte, in the centre of Brussels.
Stefan Schöning
Stefan Schöning graduated in 1991 at the Henry van de Velde-instituut in Antwerp. He has worked as a freelance designer for companies such as Kipling, Durlet, Samsonite Europe, Mövenpick-Scholler, Drisag, Pioneer Europe, NMBS and Desalto. His work has been exhibited several times in Belgium but also in prestigious places such as the Design Museum in New York, the Nike Design Library in Oregon, and the Salone Satellite in Milan.
Sylvain Willenz
Master of Arts Design Products (2003) at the Royal College of Art in London, Sylvain Willenz was awarded first prize Interieur Kortrijk in 2002. During his studies in England, he taught design (studio works) at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth. From 1999 until 2006, he took part to many design exhibitions in Belgium (Brussels, Kortrijk) and abraoad (Milan, London).
Xavier Lust
Xavier Lust is graduated in interior design from the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels in 1992. He has developed his activities in the field of product design, conceiving new furniture and accessories geared to innovation, industrial series, functionability, the Henry van de Velde young talent award in 2003. His main editors are from italy : MDF, Driade, Depadova and the belgian outdoor furniture company Extremis .
Yann Kersalé
Yann Kersalé has his origins in Brittany. He has exported his talent in 14 different countries and created roughly a hundred light-based works of art on both public and private premises, using architectural and vegetation supports.
